How we champion energy efficiency in our homes

Energy efficiency and sustainability are baked into every Cora home – from the construction methods we use through to the finishing touches.

To mark Energy Saving Week, we take a look at the ways our homes champion energy efficiency.

Building for the future

From their very foundations through to completion, we strive to build energy efficient homes for the future.

That includes using the latest materials and technologies to insulate and power our homes – from insulation through to highly efficient boilers.

That’s why research by the Home Builders Federation has found new home buyers typically save as much as £180 a month on their energy bills, totalling up to £2,200 annually. Nationally, the combined savings of all new home owners adds up to more than £400million.

We also harness the power of solar energy to power our construction sites – drastically reducing the carbon footprint of your home.

Hive thermostats

All our homes come complete with Hive heating systems, giving our homeowners a greater insight into their energy consumption.

That includes being able to control their central heating with the click of a button through a mobile app – as well as allowing for pre-set timers, meaning they don’t need to heat the house all day to ensure it’s warm when they arrive home.

Many of our homes are also fitted with solar panels to help supercharge the power of renewable energy and reduce the reliance on fossil fuels.

Every Cora home has achieved an EPC rating of at least 40% higher than the national average thanks to our commitment to energy efficiency.

One homeowner at our Eagles Edge development said: “No one should need reminding of the high price of energy in today’s world – but thankfully the bills are much less of a worry thanks to Cora and its commitment to energy efficiency.

“The added flexibility of a Hive thermostat helps me better understand and control my energy usage, while living in such an energy efficient build means I don’t need to worry so much about keeping the house warm.

“Purchasing a new home is a big financial commitment – so having those stresses taken away gives you real peace of mind.”

Electric car chargers

At Cora, we acted ahead of government legislation in fitting every home we build with an electric vehicle charging point as standard.

Our chargers are supplied by leading provider SyncEV and are designed to offer greater flexibility and ease of use compared to others on the market.

The chargers are controlled by an app, which assesses off-peak tariffs and national energy demand forecasts to create charging schedules that save our customers money on their energy bills.

James Pratt, Procurement Manager at Cora, said: “All of us at Cora believe in the importance of promoting sustainability, so it was an easy choice to start installing chargers in our homes over 18 months ago.

“We were first recommended SyncEV chargers by electricians working on-site and all feedback we’ve received from customers since have been great.

“The Hive thermostats are also a great way to both encourage a more energy efficient lifestyle that both helps the planet and our customers’ wallets.

“It’s all about reinforcing our sustainability message.”
