A spotlight on… Construction Director Steve Keenan

Cora’s commitment to developing the housebuilding industry’s most exciting talents is just one reason behind our successes, said Construction Director Steve Keenan.

As our Construction Director, Steve plays a leading role across our development sites to ensure the amazing places we create are done so to the highest standards.

His day-to-day work sees him visit our sites and liaise with site managers and contractors – and with more than 25 years of industry experience, he’s never afraid to get stuck in and help out.

Steve also plays a leading role in training staff, with former labourer Aki Mitha rising through the ranks to Site Manager alongside Josh Stanley and Brenden Austin, who were both promoted to Assistant Site Manager under his stewardship.

He said: “We have so many great people working with us and it’s really rewarding to see how they progress in the business.

“The development of Aki, Josh and Brenden especially has been great to see – including completing their NVQ Level 6 courses in Site Management. The work they’ve been doing at their respective sites has been brilliant.

“We’re looking forward to taking on more apprentices in the future to learn and work on site, which will be really beneficial.

“We are also looking to encourage more women to get into the construction side of things and both Matt Wright and I have been visiting college open days to spread the word about Cora.”

Steve added that camaraderie in the team and the collective desire to drive forward sustainability and inclusivity are just some of the many reasons that make Cora such a great place to work.

He said: “The thing that really makes Cora stand out is that you’re treated like a person, not a number.

“Everyone is accountable and supportive of one another. It is one of the real benefits of working in a smaller business.

“But the real joy of working at Cora is seeing the excitement on people’s faces when they move in. It sounds so cliché, but seeing how much your hard work means to someone is such a great feeling.

“We’re looking at an incredibly busy 2024 with five or six new sites – it’s very exciting and I can’t wait to get started.”
